Any Bruder Toy makes the best* birthday gift for boys/girls!!! Mine love how you can steer/drive the Defender! Yes! On the bottom of the SUV there is a steering wheel. Open up the sunroof and insert in slot- the front wheels steer. SO COOL! So impressed!!!If you’re a Classic Land Rover Defender Fan - this is a ”hoot”. Good German quality toy!My nephew LOVES his Bruder trucks. I got him the Mack dumptruck for his birthday last year, the big backhoe for Christmas, and the Land Rover for his 3rd birthday. He loves that the doors and hood open so he can put toy friends inside, and the dump truck is still good as new even with a rambunctious two year old playing with it for a year now. The moving buckets on the backhoe have held up great too playing in the sandbox and inside. The steering wheel on the roof of the Land Rover (can be removed and stored underneath the truck) is a great touch and he figured out how to steer it quickly! These vehicles are well-built and incredibly realistic, and they are strong yet lightweight plastic so they can be used indoors or out. He will be getting a Bruder fire truck for Christmas!Good toy for teaching how to park a trailer. It is made of plastic, so won't last forever. The plastic is durable, which turns out to be a good thing. Upon arrival, the back door was pushed way to far inside and I had to pull with quite a bit of effort to snap it back out (so that it can open outwards). Unfortunately, it seems to go back inside too easily so the kiddo's need to take it to mom or dad to pull it back out.The tires are soft rubber which adds to the realistic features. The tailgate on the trailer opens easily and has held quite a bit of horses, atv's, dinosaurs, people, marbles, and anything else that fits.We haven't successfully opened the sunroof to fit the steering extension in there (it's snapped closed pretty tight). I'm hesitant to push to hard because it seems like it'll break before it opens. There's no instructions on how everything opens, just pictures on the box (helpful to some degree).Overall, I give it 4 stars.PROs: Seems durable... Kids enjoy it (ages 12, 4, 3)... nothing has broken... lots of doors that open easily (side doors, hood, trailer)... The trailer fits easily on the trailer hitch (not a mom and dad job like some other toys)... lightweight.CONs: Some of the doors are extremely difficult to open (sunroof, backdoor when pushed in too far).I would order it again.Grandson L shouted as he opened his gift that "this was the best gift ever" . The only problem was that the motorcycle broke within the first 4 days he owned it. He was so excited that he had a car just like his dad's Discovery car. Why would the product not hold up to a 4 year old. He is not a kid to throw his toys. The cute little steering wheel had no instructions that it was stored under the car. But that was misplaced right away. It is a very cute car, everything opens and he loved looking at the motor etc. There are just a few weaknesses.I like this toy very very much... may be even more than my son does. This is an excellent miniature version of the iconic Land Rover Defender SUV. This is made entirely of plastic. The attention to detail is impressive. Both the driver and passenger doors open as well as the back door! The hood pops up and there is even a hood stand!! Both front wheel are connected to the steering wheel such that if you rotate the steering in any direction, the front wheels actually turn! But that is not the most amazing thing in this mini Land Rover. The best feature of this replica is the independent wheel suspension for all 4 wheels. If you drive this over a toy soldier for example, you will notice that the wheel directly over the soldier lifts slightly up to accommodate the soldier while all the other 3 wheels are still maintaining contact with the ground. This is what Land Rovers are famous for and what all the real off-road capable vehicles display. I was just amazed to find that they would put this much amount of work inside a toy at this price range. Bruder totally rocks! For the record, I do not approve of driving toy Land Rovers over toy soldiers. If you are shopping for the kind of kid who appreciates the finer details in his/her toys (for example, cannot spend enough time opening/closing the doors and windows of the toy car, popping the hood and trunk, turning the tiny steering wheel, etc) then this will be a big hit. It looks incredibly real, has about as many movable/interactive parts as you can imagine, has a really cool set of shocks for realistic offloading, and incorporates one of the more intelligent additions I have ever seen in a toy car: a removable steering wheel that detaches from the bottom of the car, clicks in to the axles through the sunroof, and allows the lucky recipient of this gift to steer the car from above without having to cram their fingers through the drivers side window to try and steer the wheel and move the car at the same time. Pretty sweet if you ask me...I was once a young guy who loved toy cars and would like to think I played with enough of them growing up to give a qualified recommendation on this one.Was really disappointed when this arrived, especially after reading such good reviews! I paid £43 and was expecting a good quality product. Instead it feels very cheap. The horse is okay, but the jeep and trailer are made of flimsy plastic. The tyres are of a good quality though.I think my 3 year old would have liked it but for the money I spent I expected better quality.I would have been happy to have paid £15 for this toy.We bought this for my son aged 2 1/2 and it is still a hit with him 18 months later. The detail on the land rover is fantastic, it's so realistic. It has proper suspension and doors that open. Bruder sells figures that will fit in the seats, but duplo figures work just as well. The land rover can even be steered as it comes with a little steering wheel that is attached through a sun roof, so it can be 'driven' around by holding the roof as normal, or by using the extra steering wheel. It has stood up well to constant use but one of the doors and a wing mirror did break off. Thankfully Bruder sell replacements parts though so we were able to get a kit with an extra back door, side doors and bonnet which have given it a new lease of life. Bruder toys are quite expensive but they are so well built they are worth it. A firm favourite with my son for years.Land Rover is of the highest quality. Functions like a detachable steering wheel, connected via the sunroof, allows better controlled driving. Suspension, opening doors bonnet bonnet further adds to the realism. Not forgetting a useful full towbar, which brings me to the potential negatives. Although the towbar holds a trailer securely, I'm not sure it'll withstand constant fiction uncoupling yet still maintain a firm connection or will it wear and become easy to accidentally detach. And I've had a quick try but unable to get a Bruder figure to sit in the front. Certainly wouldn't be easy for a child. Okay small stuff aside. Every part not just looking like a decent toy, appearance, quality and detail better than my 1/18th scale replica plus at 1/16 it's 11% bigger :-DAn excellent product, well made - and not just fun for kids; I bought this for a friend who was having trouble working out his technique for reversing his 2 axle trailer; a new experience for him. There's an extra steering wheel that pops in through the sunroof so you can steer it easily from the top, et voila - he could practice his reversing safely on the dining table - or simply have a great toy for when his little grandson visits. One thing bemuses me, however, is why is it £33.13 on Amazon UK whilst it's €283.99 (£233.52) on Amazon FR - Doh…?My 2 year old loves his Land Rover so much that he takes it everywhere with him (to sleep, brush his teeth, to nursery). It is robust, he bashes it against his other cars and it is still intact. Looks just like the real thing. The doors and bonnet open, and the extended steering wheel is a cool addition. Very happy!
